Clinical Purpose
Safe morphine dosing, emergency pain management
⚠️ Warnings and Limitations
Contraindications:
- •⚠️ CONTRAINDICATED in severe head trauma (risk ↑ ICP)
- •⚠️ CAUTION in severe asthma/COPD (respiratory depression)
- •⚠️ CAUTION in hypovolemic shock (peripheral vasodilation)
- •⚠️ AVOID if suspected airway obstruction
- •⚠️ Dose reduction in renal/hepatic insufficiency
Limitations:
- •Not indicated for neuropathic pain (prefer ketamine)
- •Onset 5-10 minutes IV, 15-30 minutes IM/SC
- •Active metabolites (morphine-6-glucuronide) with renal clearance
- •Interaction with benzodiazepines: ↑↑ respiratory depression
